This limited-edition gift set and collaboration with Bodegas Tradición, reawakens a bygone era of adventure and trade, tracing a famous nineteenth century trading route of the Salcombe Fruit Schooners from Cadiz to England which carried fresh citrus spices and sherry from Jerez.

Aged in the same 624 litre American oak Fino sherry cask from the which the accompanying Fino was drawn, Salcombe Gin ‘Finisterre’ has tempered citrus notes, wonderful candied citrus aromas and moreish saline hints from the aged Fino, resulting in a complex yet sophisticated gin with great character and depth of flavour.

Best served on its own over ice, mixed with a premium tonic water or in a martini married with Fino in place of the more traditional vermouth.

Accompanying Salcombe Gin ‘Finisterre’ is this ultra-traditional 12 year old Fino Sherry which was aged in the same cask at Bodegas Tradición in Jerez, Spain, which is renowned for producing genre-defining aged wines using traditional and time honoured methods. Produced in very small quantities, this Fino has delicate saline savoury notes with great complexity and length of finish.

Best served cold in a large wine glass, in a classic martini in place of vermouth with Salcombe Gin ‘Finisterre’ or with a premium tonic water.

Salcombe Gin ‘Finisterre’ reawakens a bygone era of adventure and trade, tracing a famous trading route of the Salcombe Fruit Schooners, from Cadiz to England, carrying fresh citrus and sherry from Jerez.

Deriving its name from the Spanish ‘finis terre’ meaning end of the earth, to which we will travel to source the finest ingredients and materials to produce our exceptional spirits, this new limited-edition release is the result of a collaboration with one of the most respected sherry houses in Spain, Bodegas Tradición.

Tracing its roots back to Bodega CZ, J.M. Rivero, established in 1650 and the oldest known sherry house and supplier by appointment to the Royal House of Spain, this unique Jerez bodega, is renowned for producing consistently genre-defining aged wines using traditional and time-honoured methods that regularly achieve the top international accolades.

Earlier in 2017, our Co-Founder Angus visited the bodega to discuss Salcombe Distilling’s ideas for the project and working alongside Cellar Master Pepe Blandino, selected a 624 litre 80-year-old American oak cask that held their standard setting 12-year-old Fino sherry as the perfect cask in which to age this limited-edition gin.

The Fino, having reached its optimum level of maturity was carefully removed from the cask and bottled in Jerez, before the cask was shipped to Salcombe to be filled with a special batch of Salcombe Gin, where it was aged for a little over 3 months.

The fresh citrus notes, typical in Salcombe Gin, have been tempered through the ageing process, resulting in wonderful candied citrus aromas and orange blossom, paired with the moreish saline notes from the aged Fino. The result is a wonderfully elegant gin, the colour of golden straw, with great character and depth of flavour whilst the aged Fino adds a further layer of complexity and gentle spice.
