salcombe rum coming soon
Alongside primary cargoes of fruits and spices, the locally built 19th century SALCOMBE FRUITER sailing vessels often acquired the sweeter, more potent payload of sugar, molasses and RUM on their ventures to the West Indies.
In the tropical Caribbean heat, puncheons or hogsheads of this rich spirit were carefully stowed on board, surrounded by coconuts to protect the precious cargo during the perilous journey back across the Atlantic.
Now, lovingly crafted in Salcombe from first-rate molasses gently fermented under the watchful eye of our distillers, Salcombe Rum is distilled on traditional 60 litre hand beaten copper stills before finally being matured in beautiful oak casks reminiscent of the schooners, reawakening this bygone era of trade and carrying forth our unique spirit of adventure.
Salcombe Rum coming soon to The Victuallers, Island Street, Salcombe.
